Moreton Bay Boys’ College Musician represents Australia in Scotland

27 July 2018. Manly, Brisbane:

Moreton Bay Boys’ College Year 12 student and talented trumpeter Matthew Eisenmenger has recently returned from Scotland where he had the unique opportunity to play with the National Youth Wind Ensemble of Scotland.

The program, a partnership between the Open Conservatorium, Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, UK gives students an opportunity to work with Scottish and International peers.

After successfully auditioning, Matthew represented the Open Conservatorium at this prestigious band program as an Australian Student Ambassador, where he joined Scottish and other international students and worked with various conductors and tutors in one of the world’s leading Arts Universities.

“The final performance at the end was my favourite part,” said Matthew “it was great to finally play what we’d been working towards all week.”

No stranger to the University performance environment, Matthew is already a part of the Queensland Conservatorium’s Young Conservatorium pathway and State Honours Ensemble Program. In 2016, he attended the Pacific Honours Ensemble Program, part of the Western International Band Clinic held in Seattle, Washington, USA.

“It has been impressive to see Matthew’s playing develop over the years,” said Mrs Anna Cooper, Acting Director of Music at Moreton Bay Boys’ College “He has achieved extremely high results in performance exams, and he continues to seek out opportunities to contribute to ensembles outside the College. It was great that he could represent Moreton Bay Boys’ College internationally this year.”

The trip has confirmed for Matthew that he does want to pursue music after he graduates from Moreton Bay Boys’ College at the end of this year. “I would like to enter the Young Conservatorium at University, join a band or two, just continue on playing”.

For now, Matthew is focusing on his upcoming end of semester Young Conservatorium showcase concert for Wind Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra and Brass Ensembles.
